Merit Beauty Review: Honest Thoughts from a Busy Mom

several merit beauty make-up products on a counter

Today I’m sharing my Merit Beauty Review.

Living in a warm, sunny climate and chasing after my daughter most days, I don’t have the luxury of spending much time on my makeup—but that’s exactly why I’ve fallen for Merit Beauty. The products are quick to apply, feel weightless (even in the heat!), and come in the prettiest, most wearable shades. They give you that effortless glow without any of the fuss.

Funny enough, I first discovered Merit Beauty in a totally unplanned way. About a year ago, I was browsing Sephora and casually asked an employee what the best cream blush on the market was at the moment. Before she could even answer, another shopper nearby jumped in and said, “Honestly? It’s Merit.” Naturally, I was intrigued.

The employee led me over to the display, and I was instantly hooked. The branding was beautiful, the packaging was sleek, and everything looked so thoughtfully curated. I went in for one cream blush and walked out with half the line—and honestly, I’m so glad I did.

So… was the product as good as the marketing? Spoiler alert: in most cases, yes. Keep reading for my full Merit Beauty review.

All products below can be purchased through Merit Beauty or Sephora.

About Merit

Let’s talk about Merit—the clean beauty brand that’s totally nailed the whole effortless but elevated thing. Founded in 2021 by Katherine Power (yep, the same boss behind Versed and Who What Wear), Merit is all about a minimalist approach to makeup that still feels luxe.

Their vibe? Less is more. Think: non-toxic formulas, no parabens or sulfates, and nothing that’ll irritate your skin. Everything is made to EU clean standards and even qualifies for Sephora’s clean beauty seal—so you know it’s legit. It score bonus oint for being cruilty free and not tested on animals.

What really sold me, though, were the ingredients. So many of Merit’s products are packed with good-for-you essentials like olive oil and Vitamin E, which means your skin actually feels better the longer you wear them. No heavy, cakey feeling—just fresh, dewy, hydrated skin.

Flush Balm Cream Blush $30

Let’s start with a favorite—Merit’s Flush Balm Cream Blush. This was actually one of the very first products I tried from the brand, and it quickly earned a permanent spot in my top five.

Right away, what stood out to me was the unique, no-fuss application. You simply swipe it directly onto your cheeks, then blend it out with your fingers or a brush—easy as that. Plus, the formula feels incredibly hydrating and leaves behind the prettiest dewy finish.

In short, it’s the kind of product that makes you look fresh, glowy, and put-together in seconds.

Solo Shadow Matte Eye Color: $24

Merit’s Solo Shadow is a matte cream eyeshadow that comes in the cutest little pot—and it’s as user-friendly as it is chic. You can swipe it on with your finger or use a brush if you’re feeling fancy. The texture starts creamy but dries down to a soft powder finish that stays put without creasing (even on busy days).

I’m a big fan of cream shadows in general—they’re way less messy than powder ones and don’t leave that annoying dusting under your eyes. This one glides on smoothly and blends like a dream, but heads up: it does dry fairly fast, so don’t wait too long to buff it in.

The best part? The pigment is rich but super buildable, so you can go subtle or bold depending on your vibe. It comes in eight gorgeous shades—half neutrals, half bold statement colors—so there’s something for everyone.

Bronze Balm: $30

Merit Beauty Bronzing balm

Next up: the Bronze Balm, which has become a total go-to in my everyday routine. Instead of a traditional contour stick, think of this as your all-in-one bronzing bestie. I swipe it under my cheekbones, along my forehead, down the sides of my nose, and just under the jawline for that soft-sculpted look.

It melts into the skin effortlessly—no harsh lines here—and I usually blend it out with a damp beauty sponge for a seamless finish. Like everything Merit makes, the formula is buildable, so you can keep it natural or amp it up depending on your mood.

And here’s a little trick: on low-maintenance days, I dab a bit on my eyelids for a quick, bronzy eye lift. It adds just enough definition without the full eyeshadow commitment.

The Minimalist Complexion Stick: $38

This one’s a newer addition to my makeup bag, so I’m still getting the hang of it. I haven’t fully made up my mind just yet, but I’m curious to keep testing it out. That said, the reviews online are glowing—this product definitely has a loyal fan base. Here’s what people are saying…

“Such a beautiful complexion stick and glides onto your face effortlessly. Looks like you’re not wearing any make up but you actually did! Love it and for a 50 years old woman I couldn’t have asked for more! Well recommended!”

“My favourite foundation yet! I was a bit hesitant on a foundation stick but this has amazed me!!! I like a medium coverage and it’s so easy to obtain with a small amount! Game changer.”

Day Glow Highlighting Balm: $32

This highlighter is a dream for quick mornings—just swipe, tap, and go. It blends like butter with your fingers and gives the skin a soft, glassy sheen (no chunky glitter here!). I love that it doesn’t settle into fine lines, and the glow is subtle but super flattering. Total win for low-effort beauty.

Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil: $24

Ok, This lip oil has quickly become my go-to. It’s hydrating, never sticky, and comes in the prettiest shades. There are three versions: The Sheens (Four new shades that have a slight sparkle in them)The Classics (more pigment, buildable color) and The Gelées (sheer, pH-reactive tints). The Gelées give that personalized flush—kind of like Dior’s Lip Glow, but way more affordable. Total must-have!

Clean Lash Mascara: $26

When it comes to mascara, I’m a tough critic—I’ve been loyal to my L’Oreal favorite for years. Living in a hot climate, I need something that won’t smudge, smear, or melt by noon. So naturally, I had high hopes for Merit’s Clean Lash Mascara.

Unfortunately, it just didn’t wow me. While it held up okay in the heat, I found it lacking in volume and a bit stubborn to remove. It’s not a bad mascara by any means—it just didn’t earn a permanent spot in my rotation.

Great Skin Serum: $38

i’ve gone through a few bottles of this stuff—and for good reason. It gives my skin a major hydration boost and leaves behind the prettiest dewy glow. Packed with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and cacao seed extract, it helps plump, brighten, and smooth your complexion over time. I love using Great Skin once I’ve finished my morning skincare routine.

That said, a couple of notes: first, let it fully absorb before applying makeup, or things might slide around. And second, be cautious with the pump. It tends to shoot out fast, and if you’re not careful, it can splatter and leave oil marks on your clothes. A great serum, just handle with care!

Signature Lip – The Satins

I haven’t snagged this one yet, but it’s definitely at the top of my wishlist. Thanks to my sister—who practically moonlights as a beauty editor—I’ve been fully convinced to run, not walk, and grab Merit’s Signature Lip during the next Sephora sale.

Now, let me tell you, my sister is a total beauty product junkie. Her vanity could pass for a Sephora aisle, and she’s tried just about everything out there. So when she raves about something, I listen. According to her, the formula is ultra-hydrating, the shade range is gorgeous, and the best part? It’s so user-friendly you don’t even need a mirror to apply it. That’s the kind of easy luxury I can definitely get behind!
